Yesterday I opened the Stitch Fix box that my husband picked up from the post office this weekend. (Sometimes the people delivering our packages have a hard time finding our house because we sit back off the road.) [Read more…]
Want To Stop Tattling Once And For All?
Me too! Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a magic formula to stop tattling. But in my years as a mom and an elementary school teacher, I have picked up a few tricks of the trade. Here are my top three ways to stop tattling that I have learned from my own experience or had other moms and teachers share with me.
FREE Printable: Winter or Christmas Cards for the Classroom
GRAB YOUR FREE PRINTABLE WINTER OR CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR THE CLASSROOM!
Disclosure: For your convienience, posts on this blog contain affiliate links.
My kids’ classrooms always have holiday parties this time of year when we are encouraged to send cards or small treats for their class. I wish that stores sold little cards in the winter, like they do on Valentine’s day, but I don’t ever see Christmas cards for the classroom sold in sets. So I asked Eddie to help me design one sheet of paper that we could just print on our computer at home year after year and attach miniature candy canes or holiday themed pencils
. He created this file for me and I think he did a great job! I especially love the little snowman and the fun bright lights. [Read more…]
Candy Cane Thumbprint Pot Holders & Poem
Penny came home from preschool this week with this adorable candy cane thumbprint gift she made with her class.
She decided to give hers to my mom, who moved in with us this year. I thought it was adorable and such a thoughtful gift to make with kids because it can actually be used all year, not just around the holidays. I’m not sure where our teacher found this idea, I searched Google and Pinterest and the closest thing I could find was this post. If it is an original Ms. K idea, then the kudos go to Penny’s teacher (who, to my knowledge, does not have a blog of her own). [Read more…]
Crowning Moment: A Modern Christmas Carol
One of my favorite parts about being a writer is being able to collaborate with other artists, like when I worked with the talented illustrator Dindo Contento on my children’s book, The Cookie Jar Parable.
Last year my friend Nicole came to me and said that she needed me to write lyrics for a modern Christmas carol so that she could perform it the church’s Christmas Eve service. Nicole serves as the Worship Arts Coordinator for very large church. She said wanted to try to collaborate to write a song that was more realistic than most of the Christmas carols we hear on the radio today and tried to capture some of the enormity of Christmas. 5 Minute, 5 Ingredient Healthy Burrito Bowl
This post contains an Amazon affiliate link for your convenience.
If you have been following my blog for a while, you know I have been trying to lose weight for a while. Lately I have been working hard to eat healthy, and one of the ways I am doing that is to try to incorporate more meatless meals into my diet. Since my husband isn’t a huge fan of that particular lifestyle change (he will always be a hardcore carnivore), I eat a lot of those meals as my lunches during the week. This meatless burrito bowl is my favorite meatless meal because it is flavorful and filling, but also really good for me. And as an added bonus, it only takes a few minutes to throw together. For several years in college and the beginning of our marriage, we didn’t have a lot of money. It could be stressful trying to think of something thoughtful to give to family and friends around the holidays that didn’t break the bank. But do you know what? Some of the most inexpensive gifts that came out of those years are still family favorites. I am a firm believer that gifts don’t have to cost a lot to mean a lot.

Cornbread and Sausage Stuffing Recipe
I was hoping to get this recipe up before Thanksgiving, but time got away from me. Neither of my grandmothers are with us any longer, but the holidays are a special time of year because I can share their recipes with my kids and continue our family traditions even after they are gone. [Read more…]
How to Make a Snow Globe: Winter Craft
When I was a classroom teacher, every year it was hard to think of a gift that the kids could make for their parents. One year we made miniature snow globes in upcycled baby food jars, and they turned out to be really cute! If you have ever wondered how to make a snow globe at home (And who hasn’t? Just kidding.) then this post is for you.
This craft is inspired by the snow globes that I made with my former students. [Read more…]
25 Easy Elf On the Shelf Ideas for Your Lazy Elf
We have an Elf on the Shelf who visits our house every year. Our elf’s name is Chris T. Mas. That’s the name Nick gave him as a toddler. (If you have some how avoided knowing what that is, you can see it through my Amazon affiliate link here:Elf on the Shelf:A Christmas Tradition ) The elf sits on a shelf and watches the kids during the day, then at night he flies home to Santa to report what he saw, and in the morning he is in a new spot around the house. There is also a rhyming book that tells his story. Some families’ elves get very fancy and do lots of morning shenanigans, but our elf is pretty lazy. He basically just hops around from the mantle over to the Christmas tree and back again. If you have a lazy elf too, then this post is for you.
Here are twenty five easy ideas for your elf that he or she can probably manage, even if you got a lazy elf like ours. [Read more…]
