In 2011, I was pregnant with our youngest daughter, Penny, when we found the perfect property for our family. Two and a half acres set off the main road, still part of a neighborhood, and only a few doors down from a great elementary school.
We bought the land with my mom, with the intention that she would build her retirement home here eventually also. It took about two years, but we went through the whole construction process with our contractor, Mike, and designed a custom home for our family from the ground up. Literally.
We started with a piece of paper
Over the course of about two years, I blogged the entire process. You can see all of those posts here in my Building the Dream series.
After what seemed like forever, it turned into the perfect house for us.
We finally moved into our new home in 2013. It wasn’t easy taking on a project like this with three small kids. I blogged about the entire process of building our own home.

And finally moving in!
