The Time My Mom Got Stuck in the Mammogram Machine

Welcome back! Be sure to check out my Email Newsletter. Thanks for visiting!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is almost over and I wanted to share a funny story with you. (Don’t worry, I got permission.) While there is nothing funny about breast cancer, the awkwardness of a mammogram is occasionally good for a laugh. Like the time my mom got stuck during her mammogram.

This is my mom. She is known around our house as Pumpkin (which she hates, but that’s the name my kids gave her and it stuck.)

And this is the story of the time Pumpkin got STUCK in the mammogram machine.

It was just your average, every day routine maintenance mammogram. Until it wasn’t.

Yes, the machine broke in the middle of my mom’s mammogram.

I imagine it looked like this:

She was topless and squished inside the machine and the female tech couldn’t get the machine to open enough to get her out.

So they had to call in a mechanic to fix the machine. While my mom was still in it. The dude had a really hard time fixing the machine, but eventually she was free and she lived to tell the story.

Let this be a lesson to mammographers everywhere, please check your equipment before you go checking ours.

And ladies, go get your mammograms. It can’t be any more awkward than my mom’s.

Nicole’s Fall Family Photos

October 27, 2012 By: Stephanie6 Comments

You might remember that my friend Nicole’s daughter turned 1 last month and we were invited to her Mommy & Me tea party. As a gift I offered to take family photos. Nicole’s family is preparing to leave on a mission trip early next year and is trying not to accumulate much more “stuff.”

We decided to go to a park near their house while the leaves were changing. There is nothing more beautiful than fall in Pennsylvania.

I’m really happy with how the pictures turned out. 🙂 I hope Nicole is too.

I love doing Fall Family Photos. The leaves make such a great backdrop!

GIVEAWAY: Bammco Books

October 26, 2012 By: Stephanie25 Comments

I’m so excited to be able to share an awesome new product with you that I love for so many, many reasons!!!

First, you all know how I feel about children’s books. Obsessed is an understatement.

Second, I love supporting small family-owned businesses and Bammco, LLC is owned by Tom & Sue, a husband and wife team.

Third, well, just look…

It’s like a personalized Where’s Waldo? with your child’s face on every single page. See Abby?

Abby was so excited to see her face in an actual book. I was really happy to see that it was a great quality, hard-backed book that will last. Nick and Abby both had fun searching for Abby’s little face and the difficulty level was just right. It took them a while to find her, but it wasn’t too hard so they did not get frustrated with the process.

I’m using our Find Me If You Can book to keep Abby busy while I do Nick’s school work with him.

Guess what?

Tom and Sue have agreed to give away THREE Find Me If You Can books to lucky Binkies and Briefcases readers. These make great holiday gifts!

Enter using the Rafflecopter form below and on Friday, Nov. 2  I will randomly chose THREE winners who will each receive a code for ONE free book. Winners will be contacted by email, so make sure to leave your email in your comments. Good luck!

PLUS Tom and Sue have generously offered a 10% off code for all Binkies and Briefcases readers. Just enter BINKIES  into the coupon field at checkout. The code is good for one week.

I know it’s a small thing, but I believe small things can add up to big changes. my entire North Bay series, including Out of Left Field, Right as Rain, and Way Off Base, is free on Kindle from Jan. 30-Feb. 3. Please take the funds you might have spent on my books this week and reallocate them toward the areas in our country that need them the most. Follow creators like Dad Chats who can direct you toward practical needs local to them. I hope my quirky romcoms can bring you some comfort and joy during difficult times, and I hope together we can take small, practical steps toward big changes. ... See MoreSee Less

Binkies and Briefcases with Stephanie Giese
I know there is an overall feeling of helplessness in our country right now. So many of us are at a loss for what to do beyond making phone calls and social media posts (which are still important, but can feel like not enough). I believe strongly in the power of small things adding up to big ones. As one person, I might not be able to do much, but what I CAN do is use my voice and my books to work toward the change I’d like to see. That’s why, for the next five days, from Jan. 30-Feb 3, I’m making the Kindle versions of my entire North Bay series (Out of Left Field, Right as Rain, and Way Off Base) completely free. Art has power, and I do hope these comedies can bring you some comfort and joy in difficult times, but most importantly, I also hope you’ll consider redirecting the funds you might’ve spent on my books and donating instead to one of the many charities working tirelessly in our cities right now. If you are located in an area like Minnesota or Portland, please use the space below to make people aware of the organizations in your area that need help. ... See MoreSee Less
