Hello I just read “what I want… and clarification” I taught everything from 1969 preschool to (1972) Regular and bilingual ed , Special Day Class, Resource specialist itinerate in 5 schools a week and high school Spanish. I rc’d a special ed credential and Masters in Bilingual (Spanish) Special Education in 1987. What you said in both articles is so correct and validates many experiences I had through my retirement in 2007. I had autistic kids in my kinder classes (my favorite grade) 2 of whom stayed more than one year since it was the best learning environment for them based on their needs. Something has to be done about the requirements that kids need a “Gap” between potential and achievement. Also the “push down” of more difficult material (your math example) has backfired so that now kindergarteners are expected in many cases to meet goals that were previously not met until the end of first grade. Anyway it’s wonderful what you’re doing on your blog. If you need a veteran teacher ally (who also is not afraid of losing a job) count me in! Retired after 38 years in California. Now in Nevada doing a little sub teaching, but mostly enjoying retirement. My adopted daughter is in her 2nd year of teaching.
