Nicholas had a birthday this week. I can’t believe that this little guy
is now this BIG guy!
Parenting Nick is an adventure, that is for sure! About ten days before his birthday, he started to have a lot of stomach pain out of nowhere. At dinner that night he was fine, but by 9pm, he was in so much pain that he couldn’t walk without crying. We had to take him to the hospital in the middle of the night and we found out that he needed to have emergency surgery to have his appendix removed. He has spent the past few weeks recovering.
Because of the surgery, we kept his birthday low-key. His grandparents came to visit and we took him to his favorite hamburger restaurant. He also got to open presents on his actual birthday, take cupcakes to his class, and he asked me to decorate our house with Star Wars The Force Awakens decorations and make breakfast for dinner on his special day. (He was very specific that they had to be from the new movie, not just any ol’ Star Wars decorations.)
Now that he is nine, Nick is a friendly boy with a very big heart, who sometimes still struggles to not let his emotions get the better of him. He is doing better in school this year than he ever has before! Switching to a new school this year was a hard decision, but it was definitely the right choice for him. He really seems to be thriving where he is. He loves Star Wars, music, is OBSESSED with LEGOS, likes to swim, golf, fish, and do pretty much anything that means he can tag along with his dad.
More than anything, he loves to laugh!
Happy Birthday, Nick! We can’t wait to see what the next nine years have in store.
