Let’s talk abut hair today! I have very curly hair, and for some reason whenever I wear my hair down people always seem surprised to learn that my curls are natural. But my “natural” state is more like Mufassa and less like, well, and thing I want to be seen looking like in public. If you see me on any given day, I probably have my hair pulled back into a pony tail or a clip. It can be hard work to get great curls!
If left to its own devices, my hair is not especially awesome. If I want it to look good, I can’t just step out of the shower and run a brush through it. I have always been super jealous of the ladies who can do that!
But I do have a trick to getting easy 5-minute curls that are not frizzy or crunchy. I picked up this trick when I was a teenager, I think I read it in a beauty magazine, and I am still using it. I have tried lots of very expensive products on my hair, but this is still the best way I have found to control my curls. And it’s the cheapest, which is great!
The only catch is that in order to do it, I have to take my shower in the morning so my hair is wet, which is a bit of a challenge with three small kids. I tend to hop in the tub after they are in bed at night, which means I don’t wear my hair down very often.
Are you ready?
All I do is mix equal parts of hair gel and regular conditioner.
Those are the brands I use, but you can use your favorites.
I have a lot of hair, so I use about a quarter-sized portion of each. I squirt them each into the palm of my hand, then rub my hands together, and rub the mixture through my wet, combed hair. That’s it!
If I want tight curls, then I use my hands to scrunch my hair up from the bottom.
If I want loose curls, then I wrap sections around my finger, and give my hair some direction.
Then I let my hair air dry, and boom. Done.
I told you it was easy!
If I want to go from dry, straight hair to curly hair, then I use my favorite curling iron, the Proliss.
If you have curly hair, what are some of your favorite tips?
