The Time My Mom Got Stuck in the Mammogram Machine

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is almost over and I wanted to share a funny story with you. (Don’t worry, I got permission.) While there is nothing funny about breast cancer, the awkwardness of a mammogram is occasionally good for a laugh. Like the time my mom got stuck during her mammogram.

This is my mom. She is known around our house as Pumpkin (which she hates, but that’s the name my kids gave her and it stuck.)

And this is the story of the time Pumpkin got STUCK in the mammogram machine.

It was just your average, every day routine maintenance mammogram. Until it wasn’t.

Yes, the machine broke in the middle of my mom’s mammogram.

I imagine it looked like this:

She was topless and squished inside the machine and the female tech couldn’t get the machine to open enough to get her out.

So they had to call in a mechanic to fix the machine. While my mom was still in it. The dude had a really hard time fixing the machine, but eventually she was free and she lived to tell the story.

Let this be a lesson to mammographers everywhere, please check your equipment before you go checking ours.

And ladies, go get your mammograms. It can’t be any more awkward than my mom’s.

Well, in all fairness, it was an intern who was working with the tech who got me stuck in there. They were both very apologetic.

Oh My!! I needed that laugh this morning! Too funny, I cannot imagine the look on the mechanics face when he realized your mom was stuck! I am passing this one on to my mom, she’s going to have her mamogram in a couple months. 🙂

Yeah, I have no idea how I would have reacted. If I know my mom she was giving the evil eye and sighing impatiently. Great to “meet” you too.

That’s the best story. Like you don’t have enough to worry about, now you have to worry that you’ll get stuck in there! Cracking me up. Here’s my version of my first mammogram http://sparkling74.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-little-tribute-to-october.html
THank goodness I didn’t get stuck, especially with the first woman who reeked of peppers!
