It feels like spring will NEVER come here in Pennsylvania!
But the tiny little stalks of green playing peek-a-boo in our kitchen give me hope that warmer weather will be here soon.
Remember where these seeds started?
This is our first year sprouting seeds inside the house and so far it is going really well.
We used cardboard egg cartons and disposable muffin tins with holes poked in the bottom for drainage. We labeled everything with popsicle sticks.
I’m keeping them on a table in our breakfast nook and turning them a few times each day, to try to get them to grow straight.
All of the seeds I bought this year were heirloom varieties through Burpee. We planted Roma and Beefsteak tomatoes, cucumbers, and green peppers indoors. So far everything has taken except the peppers. Not one of those little guys has sprouted yet. It’s been exactly two weeks.
I thinned out the tomatoes and cucumbers by moving some of the seedlings that were growing too close together into their own new containers.
I was really surprised to see how long and winding the roots of the cucumber plants already are. And they already smelled just like, well, cucumbers!
I have 25 Roma tomato seedlings, 15 Beefsteak tomatoes, and 22 cucumbers that have popped up so far.
We are spending a lot of time babying these little guys. I sure hope they produce well for us this year!
Update: They are doing very well outside in our new garden!

We planted pepper plants last year and I remember that they took forever to sprout. Don’t give up on them yet. Good luck!
