It is not Targets responsibility to monitor what your daughter wears. It’s your job regardless of what Target sells. Is your daughter under age? If so it was up to you to to say no you can not buy that kind of clothes.

As a father I have a huge issue with this we do not have a target around where I live but we do have a walmart and I have been buying boys athletic shorts for my daughter (whom is 2 years old) because all of the jean shorts were way too short I am sorry sexualizing a toddler is just not on my to do list EVER!!!! So I agree with this mom and sadly I agree with some of you others we are in an era and have been for quite some time now “SEX SELLS” but do you as a parent really want your daughter whom is a innocent toddler or child parading around in something that has a inseam no bigger than a fig leaf for people and possibly criminals to gawk at I for one do not so if there is a petition for this Let me know because as for me and my house we will be dressed appropriately

Yes, this is an industry issue!!, I’m praying that we will see more options at the proper length everywhere and soon. I have been saying that this is an issue for years. I wouldn’t buy the short shorts! Sometimes it means cutting pants that are too short into long shorts. Thank you for taking this action on behalf of our precious girls and all the girls that will follow!

One other thing to mention is that on the Target boys shorts the drawstring actually works; it is merely decorative on the girls. Also, not only the is the length shorter on the girls, the waist is lower on the knit shorts with the same price.

Thank you so much for raising this issue. This is something that concerns me greatly as the mother of 4 daughters and one son.

GAP KIDS: I went to buy soft, warm, long-sleeved shirts for my 2-year-old granddaughters. They had 2T cotton shirts with 3/4 sleeves, appliques (that had itchy inside attachments) and nothing soft and warm and long-sleeved. Went to Boys’ Department: Found size 2T tee-shirts with real long sleeves, soft cotton, the kind you want to put on kids in the fall and winter. Bought boys shirts for the girls and that’s not a problem; the problem is what they are selling for girls!

I would like to see girls shoes addressed as well. When one shops for shoes for a toddler a majority of the sandals are high heeled and have open toes. In the boys section they have several types of functional sandals for an active toddler. But not in the girls section. If you are lucky one can find water type sandals for girls that will allow them to run and play comfortably. Since when do toddlers need high heeled shoes??

As a mother and grandmother, I agree with the sexuallizing issue for small children and teenagers. But as a woman who continues to wear shorts who has very short thighs, I have an issue with both too short and too long. If I try to buy shorts( should end above my knees somewhere, correct), I have difficulty finding them. I don’t want Daisy Dukes, but I would like SHORTS, not knee knockers or below my knee pants. Can we have some variety in all things. I used too be able to shop in the men’s department, but now the crotch would be between my knees and the waist down my buttocks! WHY CAN THERE NOT BE A LITTLE VARIETY! I don’t want to see 500 hundred of my outfit out, and I realize cost does effect manufacturing, but couldn’t there be a computer controlled line that divides then to be cut at different lengths earlier in the process to not waste material and keep costs reasonable?

The problem I have found at Target and other retail stores is that the clothes for girls up to the size 6x are pretty cute and age appropriate, but once you are wearing a size 7 the clothes are so longer as cute. The clothes jump from a young girl look to a much older look. Not everyone wants their children to jump from a little girl to more of a teenage look so fast. I have a hard time finding clothing for two of my granddaughters that are now wearing a size 7.

I agree with your post. I am a mother of 3 girls and I constantly worry about the women they will become. I want cute modest clothes that don’t show off their parts. When a little girl sits down on the playground or sidewalk to draw with chalk or play with friends she should be covered and not have to worry about showing off her underwear to the world! I also would like better options for myself! I’m tired of seeing my husband in stylish shorts that go to the knee and are comfortable and all I’m left with is tight, low cut, short shorts. You try being a mother in those things! With all the bending, running, squatting and such we do to care for the needs of children, it’s uncomfortable and embarrassing to have to keep reaching behind you to make sure you aren’t showing your crack off to the world or doubling up on layers in the hot summer just to make clothes fit and cover you! Dressing in guys clothes is not an option. I want to be girly and cute. I’m a girl, I want girl clothes! I understand not everyone dresses or thinks the same way so a little variety would be nice. And I am with the 40% who can not afford $25-$40 for a pair of children’s clothes! Nor would I! They grow out of them too fast it’s a waste for me. I’m with you! Let our voice be heard!

I know there is an overall feeling of helplessness in our country right now. So many of us are at a loss for what to do beyond making phone calls and social media posts (which are still important, but can feel like not enough). I believe strongly in the power of small things adding up to big ones. As one person, I might not be able to do much, but what I CAN do is use my voice and my books to work toward the change I’d like to see. That’s why, for the next five days, from Jan. 30-Feb 3, I’m making the Kindle versions of my entire North Bay series (Out of Left Field, Right as Rain, and Way Off Base) completely free. Art has power, and I do hope these comedies can bring you some comfort and joy in difficult times, but most importantly, I also hope you’ll consider redirecting the funds you might’ve spent on my books and donating instead to one of the many charities working tirelessly in our cities right now. If you are located in an area like Minnesota or Portland, please use the space below to make people aware of the organizations in your area that need help. ... See MoreSee Less

I have not been active on this page in quite some time, but I do want to use my voice when I am able. I know there is a deep sadness and feeling of helplessness In America now. First, let me say in no uncertain terms that what is happening is wrong. There is no room for nuance here. There is no room for “what if he had done some else” or “she shouldn’t have been driving in the streets of her own neighborhood.” We can only deal with what actually did happen, and the reality is grim. There is also no question of where Jesus would be in these situations. He was always on the side of the oppressed, the weak, the vulnerable, the immigrant, and even those his friends considered to be their enemies. He called for loving ESPECIALLY the people you don’t like. And He told us in no uncertain terms to do the same. He also modeled righteous anger when authority figures took advantage of their positions to serve themselves. He spent the first few years of his life as a refugee hiding in a foreign country from a government trying to rid itself of the children they saw as a threat to their power. So, yes, we know exactly what Jesus would do. And it would not involve tear gas or shooting anyone. Violence toward people you dislike is a coward’s response. It takes much more courage to build empathy and work toward change. Minnesota is showing us what to do. We can protest peacefully, donate, call representatives, and we can also vote with wallets. Boycott companies funding this. Sadly, their stock prices often matter more to them than human life. Americans are a naturally strong, resilient, and yes, rebellious group. We’ve been through things like this before. But this time we have the power of connection, advanced communication devices, and receiving information in real time with video evidence. I do believe eventually we will pull through this together, and come out a little better on the other side. But I am not looking forward to the difficult journey it will be to get there. ...
