I know this is not a secret, this method of how to make your own microwave popcorn using a plain brown paper lunch bag has been around for a while. But I remember the first time I heard someone explain it to me, I had a few questions. Just in case you are curious like I was, today I have a quick 30-second video for you walking you through exactly how to do it.
I do not use any oil or butter at all, just plain popcorn kernels popped directly in the bag. I also do not staple the bag, and I definitely would not recommend it. (Also, please be very careful to keep an eye on the bag at all times! We do not want any fires.) This recipe works best for single serving sizes.
Once you have popped your kernels in the microwave, just take them out of the bag and pour them into a bowl. If you eat it plain, one cup of air-popped popcorn only has about 30 calories. Well, 31, but who’s counting?
If you choose to add some extras, of course that will add more calories to your total, but it will also make your popcorn extra yummy! Some of our favorite popcorn add-ins are sea salt, raisins, miniature chocolate chips, and Old Bay seasoning. (Not all at the same time!)
Let me know if you try it.
