My oldest daughter, Abby, had her first experience with cavities this year. It was not fun for her and it is something she would really like to avoid in the future, if possible!
I don’t actually buy candy very often, but it seems like every time I turn around someone is handing it to my kids. There are treats at class parties, Sunday school, doctor’s appointments, visit with friends. It is almost impossible to avoid. We have three children, so with Valentine’s Day coming up this week, there will be 3 class parties worth of candy coming into our house. That’s over 50 treats. Yikes!
I don’t know about you, but class parties stress me out as a mom. I need to go shopping, make dozens of miniature presents, remember all of the kids’ names in the various classes…you get the idea.
Today I thought I might be able to help a little bit by offering a small present for you guys.
I created printable class Valentine’s Day cards that you can just download on the computer at home. Cut them along the dotted line. Tape a fun pencil, or even a new toothbrush or another special treat to the back and have your child sign his or her name. Boom. You’re done!
Candy aisle avoided. (Although no one can stop the other twenty kids in your child’s class from sending home even more candy.) 😉
To Get the Free Printable:
- Just click here to download the You Put the Sparkle in My SMILE valentines. (You may need to click through twice before your browser takes you to the printable pfd version.)
- Then check out some of these other facts about oral care from #KnowYourOTCs.
Also consider that at least 20% of children ages 5-11 have at least one untreated decayed tooth and tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in kids age 6-11 and adolescents age 12-19. All the more reason we should probably be sending candy alternatives to class parties more often!
